This is available as an add-on service. ## Who is it for? If you use a Matrix client for audio/video calls, you can enhance its capabilities by adding Matrix RTC to your server. Welcome to your PeerTube instance! --- ## [Prometheus and Grafana](https://etke.cc/help/extras/prometheus-grafana/) [Prometheus](https://prometheus.io/docs/introduction/overview/) collects metrics from your server and stores them over time. [Grafana](https://grafana.com) turns those metrics into dashboards you can actually read, and shouts when something’s wrong. By default we point Prometheus at your Synapse homeserver and set up the official Synapse dashboard in Grafana, so you get useful graphs the moment it’s installed. ## What you get - **Synapse metrics out of the box**: we point Prometheus at your Synapse homeserver and ship the official Synapse dashboard in Grafana, so there’s something useful to look at on day one. - **Live and historical views**: watch what’s happening right now, or scroll back to spot a trend over the last week. - **Your own dashboards**: build custom views on top of the Prometheus data, mixing in other sources if you want. - **Alerting**: set rules on the metrics you care about, and get pinged when one crosses the line. - **Open source and extensible**: add plugins and integrations as your needs grow. ## Usage We host your Grafana (it works as the frontend for Prometheus) at a URL like `https://stats.your-server.com`. Welcome to your monitoring hub! --- ## [Radicale](https://etke.cc/help/extras/radicale/) [Radicale](https://radicale.org) is a lightweight CalDAV and CardDAV server: it syncs your calendars and contacts across your devices, and it’s small enough to sit quietly alongside everything else on your server. It’s a good pick if you’d rather host your own calendar and contacts than hand them to a big cloud provider. It speaks the standard protocols, so most CalDAV and CardDAV apps just work. ## What you get - **Calendars and contacts, synced**: standard CalDAV and CardDAV, so your devices stay in step. You can work offline, and changes sync when you reconnect. - **Log in with Matrix**: we run Radicale with our own [radicale-auth-matrix](https://github.com/etkecc/radicale-auth-matrix) plugin, so your Matrix account is your login. - **Light and private**: a small footprint, your data on your own server, no cloud middleman. - **Works with the clients you already use**: desktop, mobile, and web CalDAV/CardDAV apps. - **Sharing**: hand calendars and contacts to other users when you need to coordinate. - **Free and open source**, under the AGPL. ## Usage We host your Radicale instance at a URL like `https://radicale.your-server.com`. Just replace `your-server.com` with your actual server domain and open it in your browser. --- ## [S3 compatible object storage](https://etke.cc/help/extras/s3/) Some of our components, such as [PeerTube](https://etke.cc/help/extras/peertube/), [Funkwhale](https://etke.cc/help/extras/funkwhale/), [GoToSocial](https://etke.cc/help/extras/gotosocial/), and Synapse (with its [Synapse S3 storage provider](https://etke.cc/help/extras/synapse-s3-storage/)), support S3-compatible providers, which allow them to store files (audio/image/video/etc.) in an object storage system like [Amazon S3](https://aws.amazon.com/s3/) or another S3-compatible object storage providers like [Backblaze B2](https://www.backblaze.com/b2/cloud-storage.html), [Storj](https://storj.io), [Wasabi](https://wasabi.com), [Digital Ocean Spaces](https://www.digitalocean.com/products/spaces), [Cloudflare R2](https://www.cloudflare.com/developer-platform/r2/), etc. Moving media files off of the server’s local filesystem and into an external storage (the S3 storage system) allows you to **free up disk space on the server** and **effectively gives you infinite storage** (for a relatively-cheap price). --- ## [SMTP Relay](https://etke.cc/help/extras/smtp-relay/) Our SMTP Relay service is an add-on service to improve your Matrix server hosting experience. While sending outgoing emails is not a core requirement for Matrix servers, there are some scenarios where it will be become valuable. ## When You Need SMTP Relay There are instances where your Matrix homeserver may need to send out emails: - **Email address confirmation**: When users add email addresses to their accounts on Matrix clients, the server will send an address confirmation link with an email. - **Email notifications**: Email notifications can optionally be enabled to let them know about unread messages. - **Postmoogle Email bridge**: If they utilize the [Postmoogle email bridge](https://etke.cc/help/bridges/postmoogle), your server can be optionally configured to send outgoing emails through it. There are some situations where using an SMTP relay can help. --- ## [Sygnal](https://etke.cc/help/extras/sygnal/) Sygnal is a reference Push Gateway for Matrix, allowing Matrix **application developers** to make their custom Matrix application deliver push notifications (to [Android](https://www.android.com/), [iOS](https://www.apple.com/ios/)) via their own push gateway. ## Who is it for? **Most Matrix users don’t need to install their own push gateway**. As Sygnal’s [Notes for application developers](https://github.com/matrix-org/sygnal/blob/master/docs/applications.md) documentation says: > It is not feasible to allow end-users to configure their own Sygnal instance, because the Sygnal instance needs the appropriate FCM or APNs secrets that belong to the application. --- ## [Synapse S3 storage provider](https://etke.cc/help/extras/synapse-s3-storage/) [Synapse S3 storage provider](https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse-s3-storage-provider) is a module for the [Synapse](https://github.com/element-hq/synapse) homeserver, which allows it to store its content repository files (audio/image/video/etc. chat attachments) in an object storage system like [Amazon S3](https://aws.amazon.com/s3/) or another S3-compatible object storage providers like [Backblaze B2](https://www.backblaze.com/b2/cloud-storage.html), [Storj](https://storj.io), [Wasabi](https://wasabi.com), [Digital Ocean Spaces](https://www.digitalocean.com/products/spaces), [Cloudflare R2](https://www.cloudflare.com/developer-platform/r2/), etc. Moving media files off of the server’s local filesystem and into an external storage (the S3 storage system) allows you to **free up disk space on the Matrix server** and **effectively gives you infinite storage** (for a relatively-cheap price). --- ## [Synapse SSO](https://etke.cc/help/extras/synapse-sso/) The [Synapse](https://github.com/element-hq/synapse) Matrix homeserver can be configured to use an [OpenID](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenID) Connect Provider (OP) for authentication, in addition to (or instead of) its own local password database. The developers of the Element X client apps made a deliberate choice to not support stable SSO implementation, focusing only on the new OIDC proposal (“next-gen auth”) instead. --- ## [Synapse Workers](https://etke.cc/help/extras/synapse-workers/) [Synapse Workers](https://github.com/element-hq/synapse/blob/master/docs/workers.md) is an option for the Synapse homeserver, which allows it to offload CPU-intensive tasks to separate worker processes, improving the performance of the homeserver. For small instances (less than 8GB RAM) it is recommended to run Synapse in the default monolith mode. For larger instances where performance is a concern it can be helpful to split out functionality into multiple separate python processes. These processes are called ‘workers’, and are (eventually) intended to scale horizontally independently. --- ## [The Scheduler](https://etke.cc/help/extras/scheduler/) The Scheduler is our maintenance bot for etke.cc customers. It lets you run and schedule the routine upkeep your server needs (maintenance, disk checks, service restarts, and more) straight from a Matrix chat. ## Getting Started Initiating and using The Scheduler is straightforward.
