This page explains our role when we provide managed Matrix hosting or support.
We are a small privacy-first team. We help you set up and manage infrastructure, but we do not process any Matrix user data.
1. You control your server¶
When we manage a Matrix server for you, either on our infrastructure or your own (for example, your VPS or physical server):
- You are the owner and operator of that server
- You are the data controller for any personal data it stores
- etke.cc team only acts as a system administrator, not as a data processor
2. What we do¶
We provide setup, maintenance, and support for your Matrix infrastructure. This includes:
- Installing and configuring Matrix homeservers and related services
- Creating and managing databases, system users, and configs
- Performing updates and system maintenance
- Sending alerts or health checks
- Helping with migrations or troubleshooting if you ask
We focus only on the system side of things.
We do not handle Matrix-level user data like messages, files, user accounts, or rooms.
3. What we can access (but don’t)¶
We may have system-level access to your server, including:
- SSH root access (for updates and automation)
- Database access (to create tables for Synapse, Baibot, etc)
- Service logs and metrics (for monitoring)
This access is only used to provide the services you requested.
We do not use it to inspect or interact with Matrix user data unless you ask us to during support.
We are not Matrix users on your server. We do not log in to your rooms. We do not read messages or files.
4. Your responsibilities¶
Because you operate the Matrix server and decide how it is used:
- You are the data controller under GDPR
- You are responsible for informing your users about privacy and data handling
- You should publish your own privacy notice or policy
If you ask us to help with a task that might involve accessing personal data, we will only act under your clear instructions.
5. Summary¶
- You own and control your Matrix server
- We do not look at or process your users’ data
- We provide system-level setup and support
- We are not a data processor unless you ask us to be
