#### New Component: [Draupnir](https://etke.cc/help/bots/draupnir/)

A highly capable moderation system that helps keep your server, rooms, and users safe from spam, scams, and other threats.

We’ve been testing it for a while, and with the help of the Matrix community, we’ve prepared [a simple step-by-step guide](https://etke.cc/help/bots/draupnir/#getting-started) with sane defaults that works for 99.99% of servers and saves your time while keeping your server protected from threats.

*You may have noticed the Moderator user in etke.cc rooms - this is Draupnir configured using the mentioned guide, including all recommended options.*

Price: +$3/month. Existing customers can get it by [contacting our support](https://etke.cc/contacts/), new customers can get [a server with Draupnir preinstalled](https://etke.cc/order/?preselect=%2Fhelp%2Fbots%2Fdraupnir%2F)

### Matrix Rooms v12

On August 11, a [coordinated security release](https://matrix.org/blog/2025/08/security-release/) was published, and then on August 14 [a disclosure was published](https://matrix.org/blog/2025/08/project-hydra-improving-state-res/)

#### What you need to know

Only **public** rooms are considered at-risk; the fixes are available only for **v12** rooms. Your server (once it is updated at least to Synapse v1.135.1) will use v12 by default for any **new** room you create.

- Synapse v1.135.1 and later contains the security fix
- Element Web v1.11.109 and later supports v12 rooms
- Cinny Web v4.9.0 and later supports v12 rooms
- ShildiChat Web does **not** support v12 rooms yet
- FluffyChat Web does **not** support v12 rooms yet
- Mobile apps - please check the release notes of the mobile app you use. If it was last updated in June, or the release notes don’t contain specific mention of v12 support, your mobile app does **not** support v12 rooms yet

#### What you can do

As it was mentioned in #discussion:etke.cc , #updates:etke.cc, #homeowners:matrix.org , and plenty of other rooms, you can:

1. Routinely update your server (automatic weekly maintenance does that automatically, so you don’t need to do anything else)
2. If you have public rooms, [review the brand-new guide by the Matrix Foundation](https://matrix.org/docs/communities/administration/) and **plan** the upgrade

Please keep in mind that room upgrade is a disruptive process; it **will** impact your users, and it **will** cause issues and inconvenience. Do not upgrade rooms if you don’t have to.
