Matrix Rooms v12 - new updates¶
Reminder: on August 11, a coordinated security release was published, and then on August 14 a disclosure was published. Please refer to the previous news entries for details.
v12 Support Updates¶
- ShildiChat Web v1.11.109-sc.0.test.0 supports v12 rooms
- FluffyChat Web, Android, iOS v2.1.0 support v12 rooms
Apart from these updates, various other components got v12 support (e.g., #honoroit:etke.cc ), or improved it (e.g., Cinny, Draupnir). We strongly suggest waiting at least 1-2 more weeks before upgrading your existing public federated rooms and ensuring the components you use are ready to support v12 rooms. Private and/or unfederated rooms do not need any upgrades.
Service Updates: Moderation Guide and Muninn Hall Community¶
Last week we introduced Draupnir, a moderation bot for Matrix, along with a quick start guide that was prepared with input from Draupnir’s developers and experienced Matrix moderators. This ensures the guide is not just theory, but based on real-world use.
This week we are going one step further. A bot alone cannot solve every problem, so we published a new Matrix Moderation Guide. It gives you the bigger picture: why moderation matters, what to watch out for, and how to combine tools, knowledge, and community support to keep your homeserver safe. The guide was built together with the same community experts who helped us with Draupnir.
At the same time, the Muninn Hall community officially opened its rooms. Muninn Hall brings together developers of moderation tools and experienced server admins to share knowledge and coordinate responses to abuse and spam. If you are already running Draupnir, you are probably benefiting from their active threats policy list - now if you run a public Matrix server with open registration, you can also join the wider community for alerts, discussions, and support.
