Reminder: Ubuntu 20.04 (LTS) is Deprecated¶

A reminder for server owners using Ubuntu 20.04 (LTS) - it was deprecated in May 2025 by Canonical, and currently the packages provided within this distro version cause issues with the regular maintenance process (namely, Python 3.8). While it still somewhat works, very soon servers using that distro version will become unmaintanable, because modern Ansible (the automation system we use) versions will require at least Python 3.9.

• Who is affected: servers initially installed before 2022-2023 and using Ubuntu 20.04 (LTS) specifically
• How to address the issue: just follow the step-by-step guide and upgrade to the Ubuntu 24.04 (LTS)

You do not have to contact us before, during, or after the update unless you require help with restoring from a server outage - we prepared everything we could from our side already for both on-premises and cloud hosting customers, so just follow the guide at any time convenient to you. The only suggestion is to run maintenance using Synapse Admin once the distro is upgraded
