whatsapp bridge update

Spaces support has been enabled for the whatsapp bridge. Existing users (matrix users with a bridged whatsapp account) should follow the following steps:

  • server should be updated (either by run maintenance with etke.cc/scheduler or by automatic maintenance)
  • (any) matrix user with bridged whatsapp account who wish to get their rooms put into a space should send the !wa sync space command to the whatsapp bridge bot (the !wa prefix may be omitted)

Manual migration should be performed only for existing matrix users who have bridged their whatsapp accounts (so that their existing rooms would be grouped into a Matrix space). Any users who bridge their whatsapp account in the future (after this update) will get spaces automatically without having to do anything

service updates

  • To more proactively respond to service troubles for the servers we manage, we’ve installed internal monitoring to all subscribers’ servers (powered by prometheus-node-exporter ). Collected information: CPU, RAM, Disk and systemd service status. Example of collected information is available in the attached file (that’s real data from the the etke.cc homeserver, without any redactions). Metrics are collected by our system from authenticated endpoints on each Matrix server (no public access). We retain collected monitoring metrics on our side for 7 days. Some of our customers have already received monitoring system emails about high disk utilization, misconfigured DNS and misconfigured external integrations. We plan to release a customer-facing monitoring tool in the future
  • We’ve added new hosting plans: Turnkey: huge (4vCPU, 16GB RAM, 160GB Disk) and Turnkey: monster (8vCPU, 32GB RAM, 240GB Disk). Existing Turnkey customers may upgrade to larger Turnkey plans without data loss and with 2-5 minutes of total downtime.

servers update in progress (security fix)

  • Synapse 1.61.0 -> Synapse 1.61.1

This patch release fixes a security issue regarding URL previews, affecting all prior versions of Synapse. Server administrators are encouraged to update Synapse as soon as possible. We are not aware of these vulnerabilities being exploited in the wild.

servers update completed

  • Buscarron 1.1.0 -> 1.2.0
  • Uptime-Kuma 1.16.1 -> 1.17.1

Our new maintenance system (Scheduler ), which has been in development and testing for a while, is now out of closed beta. Thanks to everyone who helped during the testing period! 🎉

The new automated system maintains the servers of all etke.cc customers, according to their preferred maintenance schedule and server-stability setting. All existing customers have been assigned a random server maintenance schedule, but are encouraged to talk to the Scheduler Bot and pick their own convenient maintenance schedule (day of the week + time).

Besides doing automated maintenance, the Scheduler Bot lets you run maintenance manually (whenever you’d like), as well as perform various tasks on your server (restart bridges, etc).

Check the Scheduler documentation for more details!
